Short Biography

Marek Pršín has been a research fellow at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institute of Political Science since May 2020. His research centres on the party politics and political systems of post-socialist EU member states in East-Central Europe, with a particular focus on the emergence and success of new political parties. In his doctoral thesis, he uses a case study of the Czech Pirate Party to examine the conditions for the success and survival of new parties. His broader research interests also encompass processes of democratic erosion and illiberal tendencies in East-Central Europe.

He completed his Master’s degree in European Studies at the University of Passau in 2018, focusing on European integration as well as the society and politics of East-Central Europe. Previously, he studied European Territorial Studies at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. Beyond academia, he has gained practical experience in the public sector, including serving as a policy officer for the EU Digital Agenda at the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic from 2019 to 2020.
